St John’s Church of England Admissions Policy Consultation 2022-2023

The Governors of St John’s Church of England Primary School, Caterham are consulting on proposed changes to their admissions arrangements.  As required by the Department for Education's School Admissions Code this consultation will run for a minimum of 6 weeks, commencing on Friday 13 November 2020 and closing on Friday 25 December 2020.

The proposed changes would take effect from the beginning of the academic year 2022. The changes to the policy are:

  1. Further clarification is given under note 3 for the criteria: children whose parent/carer is a faithful and regular Christian worshipper.

Note 3 has the additional information now included:

In exceptional cases, a parent/carer for whom unavoidable circumstances have consistently prevented them from attending worship such that they have been unable to qualify for the faith-based oversubscription criteria, may be considered to be a faithful and regular worshipper; the relevant Minister will determine whether or not there were unavoidable circumstances.

Note 6  has the additional information now included:  

In exceptional cases, a parent/carer for whom unavoidable circumstances have consistently prevented them from attending worship such that they have been unable to qualify for the faith-based oversubscription criteria, may be considered to be a faithful and regular worshipper; the relevant Minister will determine whether or not there were unavoidable circumstances.   

  1. The Supplementary Information Form for Christian Worshippers

3a Section 3 Christian Commitment now includes the additional text:

In exceptional cases, a parent/carer for whom unavoidable circumstances have consistently prevented them from attending worship such that they have been unable to qualify for the faith-based oversubscription criteria, may be considered to be a faithful and regular worshipper; the relevant Minister will determine whether or not there were unavoidable circumstances. Please provide brief details below

3b. Section 3: The Minister's reference now includes the following additional text:

In answering this question you may, in exceptional cases, take into account any unavoidable circumstances that have consistently prevented the parent/carer from attending worship in your church such that they have been unable to qualify for the faith-based oversubscription criteria.

4 The Supplementary Information Form for A Member of Faith 

4a. 3. Section 3 Faith Commitment now includes the additional text: 

In exceptional cases, a parent/carer for whom unavoidable circumstances have consistently prevented them from attending worship such that they have been unable to qualify for the faith-based oversubscription criteria, may be considered to be a faithful and regular worshipper; the relevant Faith Leader will determine whether or not there were unavoidable circumstances. Please provide brief details below   

4b. Section 3: The Faith Leader's reference now includes the following additional text:  

In answering this question you may, in exceptional cases, take into account any unavoidable circumstances that have consistently prevented the parent/carer from attending worship such that they have been unable to qualify for the faith-based oversubscription criteria.
